Friday B.S.: Careful What You Pack Posted 07/04/08
Two travel weeks in a row, and I am already fried of air travel enough for a lifetime. Twice I had TSA agents stop me because of what was in my bag. The first incident was because of a rogue toothpaste tube that didn't end up in a proper sealed baggie. The TSA agent pulled my backpack aside and said, "I'd like to look through this."

True Colors Tour Ties in Music and Politics Posted 06/29/08
Taking in the True Colors Tour 2008 at the Greek Theatre in Berkeley, CA, I was struck by how much more forceful the political message was this year. Maybe it's because California has recently permissed gay marriages and a counter amendment is already on the state's November ballot. Maybe it was because the show was the same day as the San Francisco Pride parade and the emotions were already running strong. Or maybe it was because tonight Cyndi Lauper was on a tear. During a break in the show, she delivered a powerful, gripping sermon about getting involved, knowing what you're voting for and then voting.

Friday B.S.: A Little Gay Never Hurt Nobody Posted 06/13/08
My friend and I went out for drinks last night just as the Red Sox fans were streaming out of Fenway Park after a victory over Baltimore. With Commonwealth Ave at a stand still and my car trapped in the Warren Towers parking lot, the obvious solution was to find a bar, down a pitcher of Summer Ale and talk about men. Okay, so the Celtics game was on the TV screens but it was still the first quarter and the game was looking miserable (who knew?) Out of our conversation about men came this revelation about my dating life: I would probably get more dates if I was more obvious about...well you know, being gay.

Boston Pride Kicks Off at Faneuil Hall With a Whimper Posted 06/09/08
by Jeremy Goodman
Boston's Pride Week kicked off with day of music and dance at Faneuil Hall on Saturday. But lets face it...it wasn't exactly a rousing success. I'm not quite sure when Pride became a week instead of a parade and a night at the bars; apparently, I'm not the only one. When a friend and I arrived, the only gays in sight were the Moving Violations Motor Cycle club, which is strictly for the ladies and I'm sure you can develop a mental picture for yourself. I have seen the end of my deodorant stick and I am sad. I am faced with the dilemma of replacement and it's not as easy as just heading down to CVS and picking up whatever's on sale. Personal hygiene products come with a myriad of considerations and for being the anti-shopper that I am, I get bottlenecked on the simple decisions.

Friday B.S.: Vacation to Ipixuna Posted 05/30/08
So after last week's aborted mission to discuss the finer points of reading a book from your handheld (which, let's face it, hasn't become anymore exciting in the last seven days) I thought this week we would take an adventure trip down to the rainforests of Brazil to meet some tribal Indians. These natives were recently photographed trying to shoot down the airplane that photographed them with bows and arrows, courtesy of Survival International.

Friday B.S.: 100 Words Posted 05/23/08
I scrapped the article I was writing for today because I had one of those moments. The moment goes something like this. Writing, writing, writing. Stop. Think, "What the hell am I writing about anyway?" Sometimes an article idea sounds good conceptually but then you get into it and you're like, who the hell is going to read this?

Review: Neely Still King of Superstar Posted 05/17/08
Jesus Christ Superstar
The Opera House Boston, MA May 17, 2008 Somewhere in America, two men in business suits approach the outer doors of a vault. The first man knocked gently and called out quietly, "Mr. Neeley?" as if not completely sure whether to disturb the rest of the cryogenically frozen superstar. The second man, more confidently, called through the door, "Mr. Neeley, we were wondering if you would be interested in playing Jesus in a touring revival of Jesus Christ Superstar?" Muffled moans could be heard. The men exchanged glances mixed with fear and uncertainly. Finally, after another minute of uncomfortable sounds filtering through the doors, a voice asked, "Is he still crucified at the end?" I'm not usually a huge fan of bandwagon trends but the latest "go green" nonsense spouted by bands and banks and Tyra (Banks) has me a little ambivalent. While I can concede that environmental health is a topical issue that probably is due some loving, I have a hard time believing that all these superstars who are supposedly pushing green initiatives really give even one tiny llama turd.
